This paper describes the livelihood challenges and sustainable development implications of a mininginduced resettlement programme in Ghana within the framework of dualist land tenure regime. Using surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews, findings indicate that the mininginduced resettlement projects triggered precarious living conditions for affected populations.

The concept of Sustainable Livelihood (SL) is an attempt to go beyond the conventional definitions and approaches to poverty eradication. [7] These had been found to be too narrow because they focused only on certain aspects or manifestations of poverty, such as low income, or did not consider other vital aspects of poverty such as vulnerability and social exclusion.
Robust indicators are needed to understand the relationship between mining and development. To date, there has not been a consistent evidencebased approach to selecting relevant indicators. The sustainable livelihoods (SL) framework provides a sound basis for indicator selection.
